Below is a quick way to identify people with good temperament based on the day of birth of their Bazi birth charts. This info is helpful when dating a new person, making a new friend/ partner or hiring a new employee.

Before we go further, please note that “good temperament” is NOT equal to “good personality“. Although people with good personality are more likely to have good temperament. Good tempered people could also be cunning, deceitful, lazy, mean and etc..

4 TYPES OF DAY-PILLARS WITH GOOD TEMPERAMENT

1. Day-pillar with +power star (zheng-guan) at the branch (日支坐下正官): geng-wu, bing-zi, xin-si and ding-hai days.

2. Day-pillar with +resource star (zheng-yin) at the branch (日支坐下正印): jia-zi, ji-si, yi-hai and wu-wu days.

3. Day-pillar with -resource star (pian-yin) at the branch (日支坐下偏印): bing-yin, ding-mao, geng-chen, xin-chou, ren-shen and gui-you days.

4. Day-pillar with +wealth star (zheng-cai) at the branch (日支坐下正財): wu-zi, ren-wu, ji-hai and gui-si days.

3 TYPES OF DAY-PILLARS WITH GOOD TEMPERAMENT SOCIALLY BUT ARE RUDE/ IMPATIENT TO FAMILY MEMBERS

The following day pillars put up a facade of good temperament to outside world but are rude and even vicious to their own family members or people close to them .

1. Day-pillar with -power star (qi-sha) at the branch (日支坐下七殺): wu-yin, ji-mao, jia-shen, yi-you, ren-xu, ren-chen, gui-wei and gui-chou days.

2. Day-pillar with -wealth star (pian-cai) at the branch (日支坐下偏財): jia-xu, jia-chen, yi-chou, yi-wei, bing-shen, ding-you, geng-yin and xin-mao days.

3. Day-pillar with -output star (shi-shen) at the branch (日支坐下食神): bing-chen, bing-xu, ding-chou, wu-shen, ji-you, ren-yin, gui-mao and ding-wei days (these day-pillars are mostly impatient, anxious and not rude).

Please note that this is a “quick check” only. A more accurate reading should be reading the whole birth chart and not just the day branch.

In a Bazi chart, stem level represents external environment and what is visible to the public. Branch level is the hidden and internal reality or psychic of the individual.

In this post, meaning of “4-stem clashes” are shown here. There is no Wu- and Ji-earth clash.

When a chart has stem clash/es, it stands for the development or occurrence of events and environmental changes related to the chart owner (“daymaster” or DM).

4-STEM CLASHES AND SICKNESS

Jia-geng clash: head or face injury
Yi-xin clash: injury involving 4-limbs; tendon and bone pain
Bing-ren clash: head and kidney problems
Ding-gui clash: bladder or heart problems

4-STEM CLASHES AND PILLAR LOCATION

Year pillar clashed: older generation relocates or moving, daymaster does not get the endowment or blessing from older/ ancestral generation
Month pillar clashed: daymaster cannot rely or depend on parents and/or siblings; unstable family environment
Day pillar (DM) is clashed: DM endures many changes and has few or no mentor or “nobleman” to help him/ her
Hour pillar clashed: children leave home or town or DM does not enjoy blessing from his/ her children

Note: the above need to be considered with the favorableness of the palace, so the meanings above are not absolute and could be opposite.

4-STEM CLASHES AND 10 TRANSFORMATION STAR (“10-GODS”)

When resource star (zheng-yin/ pian-yin) is clashed: mainly means instability in school or career. DM gets the benefit IF resource star is unfavorable in the chart.
When power star (zheng-guan/ qi-sha) is clashed: mainly means career or official post (government official) becomes unstable. Opposite if power star is unfavorable in the chart.
When wealth star (zheng-cai, pian-cai) is clashed: stands for the person actively pursues wealth like investment or running business. It could also means losing wealth and money-comes-money-goes situation. DM could get wealth if wealth star is unfavorable in the chart. Wealth also stands for wife/ mistress in male charts. This could mean affair or divorce or losing money due to woman.
When output star (shang-guan, shi-shen) is clashed: DM has too many “ideas” and changing mind frequently. DM has some general skills/ knowledge but not at proficient level and changes job frequently. Opposite if output star is unfavorable.
When peer star (bi-jian, jie-cai) is clashed: this likely means losing wealth due to friends/ peers or hard to get close friends. DM gets close friends if peer star is unfavorable in the chart.

In Bazi, the location or “palace” below the day stem (a.k.a. “daymaster“, the chart owner) is called “spouse palace” 配偶宫. It contains information like physical appearance, personality and more of the daymaster’s spouse. But today we focus only on marriage timing provided by this palace.

A. The following scenarios likely result in early marriage (late teen/ early 20’s) or marriage at appropriate age according to local norms 早婚适婚:

Spouse palace is combined into spouse star (wealth star for male and power star for female) by another branch within the chart.
Spouse palace is combined into spouse star or wealth (male)/ power (female) formation with other branches.
Spouse star (+wealth/ zheng-cai for male; +power/ zheng-guan for female) sits in spouse palace.
Favorable element or “useful god” sits in spouse palace with no penalty or clash.

B. The following scenarios likely result in delayed marriage (beyond the appropriate marrying age according to local norms) 迟婚:

Spouse palace sits on void branch with no remedy
Peer star (bi-jian/ jie-cai) or female with +output (shang-guan) sitting in spouse palace

C. The following scenarios likely result in late marriage (40+ or older) 晚婚:

Spouse palace is combined into peer (bi-jian/ jie-cai for male) formation or +output (shang-guan for female) formation with other branches.
Spouse palace is clashed or penalized by other branch with no combination to the rescue.

D. The following scenario likely results in early marriage (late teen or early 20’s) 早婚:

Natal chart’s Peach-blossom 桃花 or Celestial Celebration (tian-hei 天喜) or Celebration (hong luan 红鸾) star combines into spouse palace.

Below are some general observations when annual luck pillar clashes one’s natal chart.

1. Annual luck pillar clashing year pillar: You should be more patient, tolerant and avoid argument/ dispute with supervisor or boss. If clashing wealth storage, be careful of losing ancestral/ family fortune overnight.

2. Annual luck pillar clashing month pillar: You may have the urge or motivation to do things that you normally will not do, such as investment, risky endeavor, divorce, affair, cohabitation and etc.. You need to pay attention to finance and marital relationship.

3. Annual luck pillar clashing day pillar: Single person may meet a potential partner and should secure this opportunity for marriage. Married person is prone to marital discord; your spouse may have affair.

4. Annual luck pillar clashing hour pillar: Female may get pregnant. Person with children should pay attention to their relationship with their children. There may be changes in work or career.

Below is taken from my ““Applied Bazi: Sickness Forecasting and Management” w/33 hr. HD video ” course manual:

Characteristics of “sickness“: Generally speaking, when an element in a natal chart is weak and subdued by another strong element without the ability to resist, the result will be sickness. Another scenario is one element is especially strong or hyperactive in the chart will result in sickness related to that element.

For injury and accident, it is the result between two strong elements battling each other with no mediator element. For examples:

· Metal and wood battling is likely involving injury of bones and tendons

· Wood and earth battling is likely involving muscle and internal injury

· Water and fire battling is likely involving burned by fire/ hot objects and bloody events

· Metal and fire battling is likely involving blood related sickness, blisters and poisoning.

2-elements battling can occur only when both element have strength within a chart. It cannot happen if one element is strong and the other one is weak.

Influences of unfavorable element in Bazi 八字忌神

In Bazi, unfavorable element or “annoying god” (ji-shen) refers to for an element that is detrimental to the person or “daymaster” (DM) of the natal chart owner.

Unfavorable element causes “imbalance” in a chart that may create misfortune, sickness and disasters. One of the goals of Bazi reading is to find out one’s unfavorable element and make preparations and remedies to mitigate its effects.

The negative influences of unfavorable element can be observed from the ten transformation stars or “10-gods” representing these elements:

1. Zheng-cai or +wealth star is unfavorable: low wealth luck and salary or income, work/ career problems; high work output or effort with low return.

2. Pian-cai or -wealth star is unfavorable: poor luck in non-regular income, likely to lose money in gambling, speculations, stock and investments

3. Zheng-guan or +power star is unfavorable: problem getting promotion in career or official position; unlikely to work for government; hard to rise through the ranks even if working for government.

4. Qi-sha (pian-guan) or -power star is unfavorable: Qi-sha represents “mean people”, back-stabbers, illegal groups; prone to getting involved with Mafia-type people or being bullied; feeling pressure or being prosecuted; also lacking performance or achievement in career.

5. Zheng-yin or +resource star is unfavorable: stands for low academic background and performance; +resource star also represents helpful mentor or nobleman. This person lacks helpful mentor and must be self-reliant to achieve success.

6. Pian-yin or -resource star is unfavorable: This represents the senior relatives of chart owner are not healthy and is prone to being dragging down or implicated by them. This also means lacking relationship or communications with family members.

7. Jie-cai or +peer star is unfavorable: This stands for disharmony with siblings. This person appears to have many acquaintances but few real friends. This also means s/he tends to overwork.

8. Bi-jian or -peer star is unfavorable: This stands for siblings are likely financially unstable and not helpful to this person. It also means s/he is likely implicated or dragging down by his/her siblings.

9. Shang-guan or +output star is unfavorable: This person is prone to quarrel, dispute, gossip or scandal and likely to have sex scandal. +Output star also stands for mental fatigue and tough working conditions.

10. Shi-shen or -output star is unfavorable: This stands for depression due to no one recognize or hire one’s talent. This could also mean one’s thought is out of reality or unrealistic.

Babies born in this upcoming March 10 from 5-7am (2023) will have a quad-rabbits chart (click pix to enlarge):

Chart with 4 identical branches has a major or even fatal disadvantage– when one branch is clashed by a luck period, like in this case, when rooster or You year arrives, all branches will be clashed and shaken the chart to the core.

When all the branches of a chart are clashed, it implies major misfortune or even death.

Mao-you clash usually involves negative romance or sexual scandal. If not, traffic accident or surgery due to wood and metal battling.

4 rabbits or Mao-wood has an additional major disadvantage that may be worse than mao-you clash. When rat or Zi year comes, 4 zi-mao penalties will be formed which is one of the 3-penalties, known as “Penalty of Ingratitude“. Some teachers think this penalty is more severe than clashes.

It is not unusual that we run into someone who sounds and looks kind but is as venomous as a snake in reality. We may also encounter the least expected critical help from people whom we had thought nasty and unkind. In Chinese, these scenarios are called “compassionate appearance with a vicious heart 面慈心恶” and “vicious appearance with a compassionate heart 面恶心慈”.

“10-GODS”: ZHENG-SHEN AND PIAN-SHEN

The 10 transformation stars (“10-gods“) by themselves are neither positive nor negative. They become value-laden when interact with other stars within a natal chart. However, even without doing a formal calculation of favorable or unfavorable element for a chart, the first quick glimpse of the number of certain stars or “gods” will give you a general idea of the personality and personal characteristics of the chart owner.

This is done by classifying 10-transformation stars into two groups: zheng-shen and pian-shen. They literally mean normal and deviated “gods”.

ZHENG-SHEN 正神

The word “zheng” means standard, normal, formal, rightful and righteous. “Shen” means “god” or transformation star in this context. Zheng-shen here refers to the group of transformation stars (“10 Gods”) that are usually perceived as positive in the chart. Here are the zheng-shen:

Zheng-yin (+resource)
Zheng-guan (+power)
Zheng-cai (+wealth)
Shi-shen (-output)
Pian-cai (-wealth)
Bi-jian (-peer)

Please note that zheng-shen is based on the perceived positive value of the star and has little or nothing to do with the polarity (yin or yang) of the star.

PIAN-SHEN 偏神

The word “pian” means non-regular, deviated, side-tracked, unofficial, informal, non-standard and illicit. It has a taint of negativity. Pian-shen here refers to the group of transformation stars that are usually perceived as negative in a chart. Here are the pian-shen:

Jie-cai (+peer)
Shang-guan (+output)
Qi-sha (-power)
Pian-yin (-resource)

BAZI PERSONALITY MAGNIFIER

Below are the steps to figure out the inner personality of a person:

Get the birthday of your target person and generate a Bazi natal chart.
Check the number of zheng-shen and pian-shen (10-gods) in stem level (Are there more zheng-shen than pian-shen stars or vice versa?)
Check the number of zheng-shen and pian-shen (10-gods) in branch level.

Interpretations:

Stem level has mostly zheng-shen and branch level mostly pian-shen: this person has a “compassionate appearance with a vicious heart 面慈心恶”
Stem level has mostly pian-shen and branch level mostly zheng-shen: this person has a “vicious appearance with a compassionate heart 面恶心慈”
Stem level has mostly zheng-shen and branch level mostly zheng-shen: this person is an authentic person with both “compassionate appearance and heart 面慈心慈”
Stem level has mostly pian-shen and branch level mostly pian-shen: this person is a real bad person who has “vicious appearance with a vicious heart 面恶心恶”

The theory behind this method: Stem level represents external attributes of a person that are visible to the public. Branch level stands for internal attributes that are hidden and not visible outside.

“Wang 旺” is a verb in Bazi that is difficult to translate into English. It literally means “make prosperous” but has deeper meanings than simply material gains. Abraham Maslow’s “self-actualization” probably is a closer appropriation of “wang“.

“Wang” in Bazi context means people who will help you to be successful and realizing your potential. The people who “wang” you are also known as “noblemen 贵人” or helpful mentors.

How do you identify the people who “wang” you? You may locate them from:

1. the palace or pillar location of your natal chart: The followings are representations of each pillar location:

Year pillar: Parents/ older generations, superiors, teachers
Month pillar: Siblings, peer group, coworkers
