Note:  The following is an excerpt from the manual of “Advanced Visual Form Feng Shui” on the effects of “T-junction” or road clash (a.k.a. road-chong) on the residents of a house.

Road clash is a strong rush of air current hitting a house. It disrupts the magnetic field of the house being rushed and in turn affecting the residents inside.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF ROAD CLASH
Clash from the front of house:
l         Injuries and automobiles accidents  (hitting from the front)
l         Lawsuits (road clash is a sha energy, stands for lawsuits)
l         Murder and deaths (esp. if the road clash is from the east)
l         Serious sickness, surgeries or strokes
Clash from the back of house:
l         Injuries and automobiles accidents (hitting from the back or occurs during evening)
l         Backstabbing by mean people; being accused or implicated
l         Bad debts from relatives and close friends
l         Lawsuits
Clash from the side of house:
n          Effects are similar to clash from the back
REMEDIES FOR ROAD CLASH
  • (please see “Advanced Visual Form Feng Shui” course manual)
Note: use bagua mirror only when you have no other alternative.  It is more a psychological remedy than real fix.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ROAD CLASH AND DIRECTION  (Direction is relative to the house)
l         Road clash from NW, W, NE and S—will bring wealth, but still unsafe (may hurt residents).  It is more appropriate for
business storefront than residence.
l         Road clash from N, SW —  likely to have lawsuits
l         Road clash from SE— peach blossom and suicides are more likely
l         Road clash from East— car accidents and deaths are more likely
AUSPICIOUS ROAD CLASH DIRECTION (direction is relative to the house)
Not all road clashes are negative, the ones that clashes the “timely star” are good for doing business are: (based on current Period 8)
–NW, W, NE and S, especially NE and South
Note:  the house being clashed must have back support, green dragon and white tiger to handle the clash.

Some Chinese wonder why Japan had always won the battles with China from the late 19th century to the 1940’s.

China Map Shaped like a mulberry leaf before Mongolia independence

One clue to this question lies on the shape of China’s map before and after 1945.

The shape of China map looked like a mulberry leaf when Outer Mongolia was still part of China.  Japan’s map looks like a silkworm.

But in 1945, Russia’s Stalin had pressured the then Chinese Nationalist Government to let Outer Mongolia become independent.  In return, Stalin had promised not to aid the Chinese Communist Party.

In August 8, 1945, Outer Mongolia becomes independent. Without Outer Mongolia,  the shape of China map looks like a rooster with its beak pointing at Japan, the silkworm.

China the rooster looking at Japan the silkworm

Whether it was a coincidence or not, seven days later (August 15, 1945), Japan had surrendered to China unconditionally.

SIGNIFICANCE OF FROM MULBERRY LEAF TO A ROOSTER

Form Feng Shui is the study of  how land forms or environmental shapes of land and buildings affect the well-being of its residents.

From Form Feng Shui perspective, land shape can influence the perception and behaviors of the people reside on it subconsciously.

By nature, silkworms munch on mulberry leaves. Therefore, Japan the silkworm had feasted on China the mulberry leaf successfully.  That is, Japan had won most of the battles with China before 1945 when China’s land form was still looked like a mulberry leaf.

When China’s land shape becomes a rooster with its beak pointing to Japan the silkworm, the table has turned.  It is nature’s law for roosters to eat worms.

Hence, Japan has the subconscious fear of being pecked on by the rooster neighbor.  China the rooster subconsciously drools on this potential worm dinner.  In reality, Japan currently feels the biggest threat is from China.

Believe it or not?  Form Feng Shui can be very entertaining.  There are more interesting case studies in my “Advanced Visual Form Feng Shui” video course.

In my previous blog,  I wrote about green tombs in China.  This edition shows how some barren mountains in China become green.

At first, I think all these “greening” of stuff is a recent Chinese invention.  Upon further research,  it is a quite “old” practice.  The following photos pretty much “tell” the story itself.

In May, 2004, in Dìngxī city of Gansu Province, a barren hill was painted green for a local celebration.
20045月,甘肃定西市陇西县仁寿山公园,为了迎接农历初八的朝山会,将没有长草的山体涂上了绿颜料。
In June, 2004, Shenzhen city government (Guangdong province) had spent RMB$1 million (US$160k) to make a mountain “green“.

20046月,深圳芙蓉工业区的芙蓉尾山上,当地政府实施山体刷绿工程,整体耗资100万元。

In February, 2007,  in a county of Yunnan province, the broken part of a mountain due to mining was painted green.
20072月,云南富民县勤劳乡梨华村,采石出现的山体缺口,被涂上绿漆

In October, 2008, a town in Guangdong province had spent over RMB$100k+ to buy green nets to cover up barren hills, arid land and illegal structures, to cheat on satellite inspection of “re-green”  (afforestation) effort.
200810月,广东东莞横沥镇六甲村,为应付卫星复绿检查,花费十几万购买绿网,铺在荒地、山石及违建上。

In July of 2010,  in a county of Yunnan Province,  tombs along a hill were either painted green or covered up with a green or black camouflage net.  Reporter found out this was due to a afforestation campaign.
20107月,云南昆明市宜良县,从宜良县城往狗街路上,两侧山上坟墓墓碑要么被刷上一层绿油漆,要么披上绿或黑的伪装网。记者采访获知,这是宜良在推进城乡园林绿化工作.
From fake eggs to fake Rolex, it is no surprise that we can find fake green mountains in China. Faking a green mountain is much quicker than planting trees and waiting for the mountain to turn green naturally.  Local government officials can claim credit much quicker and earn political capital for further advancement.

Everyone knows the new green clothe is fake except the “emperor“,  At the minimal, this reversal of “emperor’s new clothe” practice has been going on since 2004.

What is the connection between fake green mountains and Chinese metaphysics?

In the last 20 years, we have seen many “new“, “long lost” or “family heirloom”  metaphysics theories and manuscripts from China.  They cover topics like Bazi, Yi-jing, Feng Shui, QMDJ and the likes.  How real or authentic are these “new” export from China?

The answer to this question is not optimistic if you see Chinese citizens swarm Hong Kong and Japan to buy basic necessities like baby formula and even rice.  They do not trust China products sold in China largely due to safety concerns and counterfeit problems.

People argue about the business ethics or the lack of business ethics in China is a major cause of China’s counterfeit problem. But this is beyond the scope of this blog.

In 2014, the Chinese town government of Doumenzhen (Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, 绍兴斗门镇杨望村) had ordered the cadres of Yuecheng Village to “re-green” (复绿”, afforestation) a hill that is occupied by tombs.

That hill is so overcrowded with tombs that it becomes arid with few trees and look “ugly“.  It does not reflect well on the local government because national Highway 329 passes through that area and the tombs and barren hill are visible.

The Chinese Communist Party is democratic and considerate.  They gave the local people 3 choices without bothering them for their input:
1.  relocate the tombs
2.  bulldozer the tombs and plant trees on top of it
3.  remove the tombs, rebury the remains deep below and plant trees (“re-green”) on top

The town government officials would inspect and evaluate the result of this “re-green” effort.

No budget is given for any choice.  The locals have to pony up money to do it.

Local villagers did not like any of these choices. Some tombs are pretty old to relocate, not to mention Feng Shui concerns.  But they cannot disobey the great socialist government.

The hill is so barren that it will be difficult to plant trees even if the tombs were removed.

The cadres focused on the “re-green” part and suggested the villagers to paint the tombs facing the Highway 329 green, so that the hill looks “green” from the highway.  The villagers agreed and collected RMB$50,000  (US$ 8000) to buy green paint.

150 tombs facing the highway were painted green.  Even the tombstones were painted green.  It looks as if they let their ancestors celebrate St. Patrick’s day or pretend they were immigrants from Ireland (green is the theme color of St. Patrick’s day).

This is another proof of “the wisdom of working people” according to Chairman Mao.

Someone has taken pictures of these green tombs and posted it on micro-blog.  A reader comments:

“You ungrateful descendants give your ancestors a green hat!”.

River “turns” green during St. Patrick’s day

“Give someone a green hat” is the slang for sleeping with someone’s wife.

In terms of Feng Shui,  the villagers may give birth to little green man (just kidding!).   They may have some strange skin problems or wood related problem like liver sickness.

Today is March 17.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

In English, we have expressions like “a pain in the rear” or “a thorn in one’s eye” to represent something or people that make someone extremely uncomfortable but yet cannot remove it openly or easily.  The equivalent expression in Chinese is “the nail in one’s eye” (眼中钉, yǎnzhōngdīng).

The massive land development and building boom in China has created a new category of residence called “nail households” (釘子戶 dīng zi hù) or holdouts from land developers’ buyout offers. Most of these “nail households” dislike the low offers or resist the corruption due to official and land developer alliance.

The pictures below show what Chinese netizens termed “Coolest nail household in history” (史上最牛钉子户) in 2007. Even CNN had reported this incident in international TV news.

“Nail household” is not a monopoly in China.  The following is the famous “nail household” of a Japanese-American family living in Anaheim, California, USA, next door to the “happiest place on earth“– Disneyland.  The family refuses to sell out to Disney for decades.

Below is a group of “nail households” in the middle of a major traffic throughway and surrounded by tall buildings.

Wait!  How about dead people?  Yes, China also has “Nail Tomb” (坟墓钉子户).  Descendants of the tomb refuses to relocate the tomb for land developer.  Here is an example:

“Nail Tomb” surrounded by tall residential buildings.  All the “dragon veins” are c

“A PAIN IN THE REAR” FENG SHUI
The “nail households”, if they preserve and keep staying in their isolated houses will win the battle but lose the war, especially the Feng Shui war because:

  • nail households are likely surrounded by new and tall buildings.  It create a subconscious feeling of being suppressed and lacking prosperity
  • dwindling luck because earth qi tends to migrate to newer structures
  • sickness and misfortune because qi is blocked by tall buildings surrounding them

In the long run, the nail households will lose more than the land developers.  So this “a pain in the rear” Feng Shui has no winners but losers.

Note:  This is an updated version of the original blog written in 2010 with certain identifying info removed.

There are rotating circular house videos and pictures floating around the web like this one:

http://www.treehugger.com/sustainable-product-design/seven-rotating-houses-and-towers-that-turn-our-crank.html

The biggest problem of doing Feng Shui for circular houses, especially rotating ones, is the determination of the sitting and facing of the house.

One way to have non-rotating door is to “hang” the donut-shaped house onto a cylindrical pillar that does not rotate– like a mushroom.

“Mushroom” design has an disadvantage of seeing a wall upon entering the house– not great for psychological well-being.  The “Form Feng Shui” implication for the residents will be “hitting obstacles wherever they go“. Besides, energy or qi does not flow well with this design.

Some Feng Shui schools use the “yang-est” (brightest) side as facing.
Determining the facing will be problematic
a circular house has “360 degree view” or windows around its perimeter.

In addition, some rotating circular houses rotates one round within an hour or two, the qi or energies entering the house will be very mixed or simply neutralized each other out.

In terms of Form Feng Shui, circle stands for metal energy.  I have seen hospitals in Mexico, Singapore and some other countries are built into circular shape–  metal energy is good for doing surgery.  Residents whose energy profile like wood or wood in nature will suffer limp injury or traffic accidents. But it is good for professionals who are surgeons or doctors.

The probability having a spiral staircase in the middle of the house for mushroom-shaped house is pretty high.  This is another “Feng Shui hazard’ in terms of Form Feng Shui.  It looks like a giant cork-screw twisting into the heart of the house.  The Feng Shui implication is certain person in the house will have higher probability of suffering heart problem or accident.

There are some positive features that one can derive from a rotating house.  For examples:

(note: all examples here require limiting rotating to 45 degrees once every 3 months or at most once a month)

  • arrange your bedroom sector or where one stays most of the time to sit on the current “timely” star of the year (eg. 8-white star) to enhance wealth luck
  • arrange your bedroom to sector that promotes health or recuperation
  • arrange your bedroom to 1-6-8 star locations to “make” a baby boy

The principle is simple– always put your ass on the sectors with auspicious star combinations.

In short, a rotating house, especially the ones with a rotating door, is Feng Shui researchers’ delight to do scientific experiments to verify various Feng Shui theories and claims.  We need someone like Bill Gates who would donate a few billions for Feng Shui enthusiasts to do experiments.

“Hi Ken, can you give some Feng Shui tips to the residents of rotating houses?”

The residents can rotate the house in such a way that the auspicious stars fall onto their bedrooms sectors and turn off the rotating motor in the evenings.  So the residents can absorb positive energies during their sleep instead of the aimless energy flows during the day.  They need to replace the spiral staircase with something non-spiral or tragedy is likely to happen within 6 years or no longer than 12 years.

Before we begin, this message is not about the advantages and disadvantages or political correctness of  “cul-de-sac commune”  living. It simply examine the idea from Form Feng Shui perspective.culdesac_540

A “cul-de-sac commune” is formed when residents of a dead-end street with a cul-de-sac are joined together like the old co-op in the past, to share resources, friendship and services. For more info, check the following link:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=102651496

Should you live in a”cul-de-sac commune”? It all depends on the location of your house in the street.

From Form Feng Shui perspective, houses located at a cul-de-sac endure a major Feng Shui sha or negative energy– the “sickle sha“. The curature of the cul-de-sac looks like a sickle cutting into the house. The negative effects of “sickle sha” are surgery or bloody accidents. There are Feng Shui formula used to calculate the most probably year of injury occurrence and who will get the injury (formula in my “Advanced Form Feng Shui” class).

House at a certain location on the cul-de-sac may suffer a negative energy called “White Tiger gives bouquet“– it stands for marital infidelity.

You may ask, “Ken, there are tons of cul-de-sacs in USA and do not seem to have these problems.”

This is exactly what I want you to ask! Cul-de-sac or dead-end street usually has less traffic, so the sha or negative energy is not “activated“– but not when you have a cul-de-sac commune! There will be increased auto and human traffic that make energy moving around more frequently and may activate the negative energy.

Now returning to the question of should you live in a “cul-de-sac commune”–it is OK to live in one if your house is not within the cul-de-sac.

If there any remedies or fixes for people who already live in the cul-de-sac? Yes, there are remedies in my “Advanced Form Feng Shui” course.
