Horace, a Caucasian student of mine, has been a horse trainer for over 30 years.  He had two accidents that forced him to euthanize two valuable race horses in less than 2 years. He was very sad and worried about the afterlife well-being of these horses. He had summoned the service of Tibetan monks to chant and make offerings for the horses, so that they can move on to higher realm in their next lives without being an animal again.

One day, Horace pondered if he can apply a transcendental object like a talisman to prevent misfortune from happening to his horses again.  He has emailed me for help.

From my Daoist talisman collections, I found 2 talismans for protection of farm animals and one specifically for horses.  However, it took me a long time to dig up the picture of the Daoist Horse Deity because the importance of horse had diminished when it was replaced by automobile in the early 20th century.  Horace can setup a Horse Deity altar in his stable for additional protection.

But the Daoist talismans do not handle the afterlife well-being of the horses.  This normally involves chanting, karma purification, prayers, self-cultivation by the beneficiary (in this case, the horse) or benefactor (monks chanting).  Even humans can hardly do these tasks themselves, not to mention animals or your pets.

Is it possible to find an object or talisman that can protect, purify karma, prevent reincarnation to animal or ghost path (at least to human path) and hopefully offer passage to heaven– with minimal or no requirement of effort on the animal?  If such object exists, it should also work for people who are too lazy or unable to chant, pray or go to church/ temple, or someone who is an atheist.

After several weeks of research, I have found a branch in Esoteric Buddhism which offers easy afterlife liberation simply by touching, seeing, listening (to mantra chanting), carrying or passing-by a copy of special mantra  (藏传佛教佩戴见、闻、尝解脱).

I have specially designed a multiple functions talisman card that combines “liberation upon seeing” and “liberation upon passing-by” the talisman.  Below is the front and back of the card:
-Click to enlarge, right-click to copy-

With this card,  Horace only needs to tape this card at the stable entrance, his horses (and any human) will be blessed with afterlife liberation when passing through the gate without making any effort.  Additional benefits will be gained if these beings also see the Manjushri Bodhisattva Auspicious Diagram.

You can give your pet the same benefits by flashing this talisman around it or simply tape the talisman inside your house and everyone will get the benefits without making much effort.

This Manjushri Bodhisattva Auspicious Diagram was drawn by a Tibetan rinpoche (living buddha) who encourages people to duplicate and distribute this diagram to benefit as many sentimental beings (humans, animals, fishes, bird, insects and etc.) as possible.   You will accumulate good karma credit by distributing it,  posting it in high traffic area or  “flashing” it to animals/ fishes in the markets before they are slaughtered or released .  Simply right-click your mouse to capture the picture into your computer and make your own hard copies.

Q:  I can’t believe getting into heaven is so easy, is this a hoax?
A.  Your doubt is reasonable.  There is a 50/50 chance that nothing happens when we died– no heaven, hell or afterlife.  But you hardly do anything or pay anything to get this “afterlife insurance“, your choice is a no-brainer.  Besides, these benefits are well-documented in an ancient Buddhist classic and not a modern invention.

Q.  Is this talisman unfair for those who really work for liberation by praying, doing good work, going to church/temple and etc.?
A:  Information is liberation.  I have done the hard work for you.  This talisman only guarantees the beneficiary no reincarnation to animal or hungry ghost path and hopefully passage to heaven.  But heaven has multiple levels.  It does not specify which level of heaven.  I guess this should be the lowest level since the beneficiary has not done much to deserve higher level.  However, being the doorman of heaven is 10k times better than being a human or a pig on earth (not to mention hell) — no tax, no Obamacare and all you can eat buffet.  Pal, get your feet into the heaven door first and worry about promotion later.

Q:  Have you seen evidence of this type of talismans working?
A. Yes, my old man was an atheist.  I had put a “touch upon liberation” talisman with his burial and he goes to heaven (don’t ask how I know).  Another case was a horse with a “touch” talisman when it was euthanized.  I don’t know if it goes to heaven except knowing it is happy wherever it is.

Chinese calligraphy– “Reality changes with thought”

Q:  Do you mean this talisman will work even if the beneficiary does not believe in religion?  Why?
A.  If it works for animals which are likely “non-religious”, so it will also work for atheists.  The “magic” is not on the receiver but the administer or the person who apply the talisman to the being.  A famous Buddhist saying, “Reality changes with thought (heart)” 境随心转.  People with affinity with me will grasp this meaning.

Q.  Can I do all the “bad” things and still get the benefits of this “afterlife insurance”?
A:   You don’t want to play trick with deity (in this case, Manjushri Bodhisattva, the wisdom deity).  You get double penalties when you knowingly doing “bad” things thinking the talisman will cover your behind.  Also capital offense like murder is not excusable with or without this talisman.

Q.  How do I “activate” or maximize the effect of this talisman?
A:  The Manjushri portion of the talisman gives you quite a few benefits.  One way to get the Universe to exchange energy with you is to make a donation to your favorite charity to get the flow of energy started.  Keep making donations when you get more benefits to keep the flow going  You may wear out your welcome mat sooner or later if you just keep getting from the universe and not giving something back.  The energy flow will stop.

One may feel depressed because it seems the whole world is against him.  The  boss works his behind off and shows no appreciation.  Co-workers and friends back-stab or driving him nuts.  He seems to run into obstacles wherever he moves.  Nothing seems to go his way. He is neither a violent nor sports type person, so he cannot grab a gun to shot or do boxing.  There is no channel to vent his frustration and anger.

Upon the recommendation of a good pal, this depressed person consults a psychologist.  The psychologist is happy to offer him a battery of psychological tests and customize a “therapy plan” of 6- 10+ counselling sessions.

During the sessions, the depressed dude will spill out his pet peeves.  The psychologist will sugar-coat the client’s craps and throw it back to him.  He may realize that it is either his own stupidity that he is depressed OR it is nobody’s fault to be depressed OR simple get a life and think positive.

Somehow our depressed dude feels relieved and happy again, largely due to the opportunity to find someone listening to his pet peeves.  But he becomes depressed again when he is billed a few thousand dollars by the psychologist.

In Southern China, there is a service that can offer similar or better results for the price of a MacDonald Value Meal.

The Chinese call people who backstab or obstruct you or whoever make your life miserable as “mean people” or “little people” (xiao-ren小人).  There are “beating up mean people ritual” (打小人) services for people who feel that they are being rejected, slighted, bullied and etc. by other people.  These services are mostly provided by older women or grannies.

In Hong Kong, beneath a flyover near the Times Square, there are some grannies practicing “Beating Mean People” ritual for HK$40 (US$ 5) per beating.  You do not even need to raise your finger.  The grannie will do all the “beating”.  This service include:

A.  ALL THE PAPERWORK (joss papers)
— a big yellow talisman that includes clemency orders for your bad deeds or sins.
— a red nobleman talisman to attract helpful people to you.
— joss paper money to please the deities and spirits
— a paper tiger (symbolizes “mean people“)
— a paper imprinted with a human shape (represents the mean people, for beating)
— a plea to heaven about beating the mean people
— incense and candle sticks

— you can specify the name of a person to be beaten or just a “blanket beating” of all the mean people around you (no extra charge).

— your “mean people” are represented by a piece of rectangular paper with a human shape imprinted.  It will be put on the surface of a brick.  The grannie will use a woman high heel shoe to strike the paper human from head to toes while chanting something like these:

” Hit the head of  you mean people, so you can’t breathe.
Hit the hands of you mean people, so  you can’t hold your pen.
Hit the feet of you mean people, so you can’t wear shoes….”

You may add your special punishment to your mean people.  But this ritual rarely curses or beats people to death.

— after a thorough beating, the paper mean person will be “engulfed” (wrapped inside) by a paper tiger and burnt.

— a quick divination will be done with the portable altar nearby by throwing two piece of wood (3 possible combinations) to see if the deity “approves” of the beating.  If the answer is “no“, grannie will throw a pinch of rice and burn some papers and redo the divination until getting deity’s approval.  Most of the time, two tries are enough.  Now you will feel great because even the deity or heaven has approved of your beating.

— all the remaining “paperwork” (joss paper) is lighted and sway around your body to “cleanse” or remove  negative energies away.  At the same time, grannie will chant, “Auspiciousness and prosperity for you!”  You feel lighter, relieved and happy.

— throw the burning paper into a red tin can to finish burning (ritual is done)

This is probably the best deal in mental health service.  For US$ 5, you get your sins forgiven, your mean people beaten with heaven’s approval, spiritual cleansing and blessed with good luck and fortune.  No wonder Hong Kong’s Tourist Association was so surprised to sell 2000 “Beating Mean People Tour” packages in Taiwan within a day or two in last May.
“Ken, does this really work?”

Two years ago, I took an Amercian Feng Shui pal to the grannie and beaten his “mean people”.  He told me later that he had no business for two months.  He was dumbfounded that most of his clients are “mean people”.  Mean people are sometimes the people who sign your paycheck, so be careful when you try to “beat” them.

In my “Daoist Talismans for Feng Shui and Blessing” course, I have a more “humane” ritual that does the same thing without beating up people.  It focuses on bringing in helpful mentors into one’s life instead.  The ritual works so well that it is reported on the TV in South America.

My second son Kevin goes to college. He had recently moved to a 3 storeys rooming house. The house was built in the early 1900’s and was recently remodeled.

He and a friend live in the attic level. Second level was empty when they moved in.

They soon feel “someone” is watching them. So Kevin asked me for remedies.
I gave him some pictures of buddha, Daoist deities and some holy buddha water to cleanse their rooms.

One late mid-night, Kevin rushed back to my house in fear. He said the ghost made him dizzy and lose consciousness for half an hour and knocked down his guitar. So he and his room-mate fled the house.

Kevin further said when their friends (visitors) and them chat about the ghost, strange thing will happen– like a window will suddenly bang or making strange noise. It seems the ghost makes sure you are aware of his/her presence.

I had prepared a talisman and empowered it with the blessing of Supreme Lao Jun, a high level Daoist deity. I told my kid that this is the most powerful talisman for handling ghost. Kevin took it back to his rooming house.

He did not call me for a week. So I suppose the talisman does it job.

Since I have not seen his room before, I decided to visit him last week.

Kevin put the talisman in a photo-frame and hang it on the wall facing his bedroom door. He said the entity does not bother him although s/he is still around whenever people talk about it.

When I walked around his room, I could feel the ghost was following us!

This ghost may have more rights to stay in this house than the new occupants. I guess s/he must be an old occupant of the past.

Two girls have just moved into the second floor where the kitchen is located. They see the moving shadow of the ghost in the kitchen!

No wonder Kevin takes my talisman-bead wristband and wears it all the time!

The talisman that I gave to Kevin is non-aggressive but a blessing talisman that offers forgiveness to past sins.

POSTSCRIPT: Traditional Feng Shui and Yi-jing (I-Ching, The Book of Changes) do not think there is “ghost” but “yin-qi” (energy). Too much yin-qi (like inadequate lighting) in a house will generate yin energy (“ghost”). So a easy fix will be making the house or room more “yang” by putting up an “everlasting lamp” (always on light) and/ or making the room more open and brighter.

A Feng Shui trick to get rid of ghost is to open a “wang door” (auspicious door, ask your Feng Shui teacher how to do it). But it is too much or impossible to create a “wang door” in a rental property. I have once used this trick to determine if a haunted house had changed “heaven’s heart” (period) or not because a “wang door” was accidentally set up by the new owner.
