Feng Shui

This article discusses common Feng Shui conditions that affect the well-being and luck of the female head of the household or business.

In Feng Shui theory, Qian or northwest sector represents the heaven, father or husband of a household.  Kun or southwest sector represents the earth, mother or wife.  Hence the SW environment and item placement  reflect the luck and position of the oldest female of the house.

The items below affects the well-being of the female in a property:

1.  SW sector should not have a missing corner or the eldest female will have no status, being physically weak/ chronically sick, not staying home, low luck, or even die prematurely.

2.  There should be no toilet in SW sector or the female will suffer illness/ low luck or the man will have problem getting a wife

3.   Do not hammer nails or hooks in SW walls.  This may affect the health of the female.

4.  Keep SW sector clean for health of the female

5.  Do not put heavy objects in SW sector.  This may curtail her luck

6.  Put auspicious items or decorations in SW sector to generate good qi / energy for the female.

7.  Kitchen Feng Shui affects female of the house directly.  Check below:

  • stove should not face toilet
  • stove should not face a door
  • stove should not be above a beam
  • stove should not face a sharp corner
  • stove should not face a water tap

Bazhai or 8-Mansions Feng Shui is one of the oldest Feng Shui schools in China.  It started around the “Spring and Autumn Warring States” period (770 to 221 BC).

The original Bazhai creators probably were the grand-daddy of positive thinking movement.  They did not label negative sectors of a house as “inauspicious” but using “little auspicious 小吉”, “less auspicious 玄吉” and “least auspicious 幺吉” instead.

When the Japanese ambassador requested China for Feng Shui help in around 7th century (Tang Dynasty),  the Chinese emperor had ordered a rewrite of Bazhai to make sure our Japanese friends understand those not so auspicious sectors are actually bad sectors.  This gives rise to modern version of Bazhai with the inauspicious sectors clearly labeled as negative–  “death 绝命”, “six-killing 六煞” and “disaster 祸害”.

Sample Bazhai sectors for Qian House

Basic premise of Bazhai Feng Shui is pretty simple– matching the magnetic profile of a person to the magnetic profile of a house.  There are only two magnetic profiles:  east-4-group and west-4-group.  An individual’s magnetic profile or ming-gua is determined by his birth year whereas a house is determined by its facing and sitting direction.  Good Feng Shui is when a east-4-group person lives in a east-4-group house,  A Feng Shui mismatch occurs when a east-4-group person lives in a west-4-group house.

While determining the magnetic profile or ming-gua of a person is straight-forward, for the house is a big mess or merry-go-round situation, especially with the changing definition of facing in modern architecture.

To do Bazhai Feng Shui, the first step is to determine the “Fu Wei 伏位” or “stability” sector of a house.  Essentially this is similar to determine the sitting and facing in other Feng Shui schools.

Below are different ways of determine the “Fu Wei 伏位” :

  1. Sitting determines house profile:  the opposite side of door-facing direction is the sitting direction.  For example, if the door-facing of a house is SE, the sitting will be NW or Qian palace, the house is a Qian house or a west-4-group house.  NW or Qian sector is  “Fu Wei 伏位” or “stability” sector of the house.  NW is always has the qi of NW. Hence this method is based on magnetic field
  2. Main door facing determines house profile:  For example, if the main door is in SE or Xun palace, the house is a Xun house or a east-4-group house.  SE or Xun sector is  “Fu Wei 伏位” or “stability” sector of the house.  This method is based on energy or qi-flow.  The main “qi-mouth” is in Xun.
  3. Resident’s ming-gua determines house profile:  For example, the house resided by a person with Li ming-gua will be a Li or east-4-group house.  The south or Li sector will be the “Fu Wei 伏位”.  This method is based on the theory that Feng Shui will not operate without the resident and should be people-centered.
  4. The tallest sector of the house determines house profile:  For example, if west side of the house is tallest, that sector will be the “Fu Wei 伏位” and he house is a Dui house.  This is based on the tallest sector is the most dominant sector.

The methods listed above contain valid arguments.  But which one should one use?  I think it all depends on individual situation.  For example, in a retail business, the main door traffic flow is important, using main door facing is likely more relevant.  For residence, main door traffic is not as important as the house magnetic influence.  Same arguments are also applicable to other Feng Shui methods like Flying star and the like.  Consult your teacher or my “Practical Door Feng Shui” course for more inspirations.

蔡伯勵Hong Kong’s famous Chinese Almanac and Feng Shui grandmaster Cai Ba Li (蔡伯勵) had passed on July 26, 2018 at the age of 96.  Cai was the region’s ultra-rich and famous people’s “go-to guy” for Feng Shui and date-selection consultations.  Billionaire like Li Ka-Shing was one of his clients.  He had been in the Feng Shui and Chinese Almanac publishing (通勝曆書) business for over 70 years.  Cai’s annual Chinese Almanac (aka “Tung Shu“) is sold over 1 million copies per year in Asia.

Cai had spent 20 years to plan and build a ancestral mansion in his China hometown. Below description is given by Cai about his mansion.

Cai’s ancestral mansion

“This mansion has mountain at the back and river in the front.  There is a theory of changing period luck in Feng Shui.  It stipulates that period luck changes once every 20 years.  This mansion will use the right door as main door when 2024 arrives.  Left door will be utilized in the following luck period.  Current main door is in the middle.  Left, middle and right doors are 15 degrees away from each other.  Timing and locations have all been carefully calculated.”

This is the so-called “forever auspicious Feng Shui formation”  (三元不敗之局).  The secret is adjusting the main door location for each new period!

Real case study from a real grandmaster– now you can see the importance of main door in your Feng Shui design planning.  For more info about door Feng Shui, consult this video course:

A student emailed me this a few days ago: “I read about “green” tilting on your blog. Is this covered in your door fengshui course?

Aging catches up with me, I lost track of what I have written last month and not to mention those written years ago.  I have asked this student for the link of the original article, as shown below:

http://kenlaifengshui.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-latest-feng-shui-hammer-tilt-o-matic.html?m=1

This article was about door-tilting craze in south-east Asia.  I had bragged about my door-tilting without physically tilting the door and called the technique “green tilt“.

My last “green tilt” was done in Singapore in 2006 in a rental property.  My client rented one unit out of the whole building and felt uncomfortable with the energy in the house.  He thought the house might be “unclean”.

Classic fix for situation like this without involving religion is to create an auspicious main entrance.  The auspicious qi will make whatever entities uncomfortable and stay away.

The problem was:  this is a rental unit and tenant is not authorized to physically modify the door location.

So the only alternative is to do a “green tilt“.  No religious stuff involved.  Material cost is almost zero. The door is 100% unchanged but the angle was somehow changed to bring in the auspicious qi.

A few years later, this client moved to another place.  His dog suddenly barked fearfully as if seeing some “visitors” when he  took down the “green tilt” item.  Dogs can see ghosts and spirits.  The house reverted back to former energy state that is attractive to other “entities”.

“Ken, are you going to tell us the ‘green tilt’ secret?”

The only clue I can give you is that the method is based on one of the Feng Shui systems in my “Practical Door Feng Shui for Wealth” course.  Many Feng Shui masters and carpenters may lose significant income if this “green tilt” method is made public.  I cannot afford to owe them this giant karma debts.

My advice would be: avoid door-tilting, especially if this is a residence.

What are these monsters?  Jurasic Park escapees?

Now you see a happy Ki-lun family guarding current year’s San-sha location (north, hai, zi and chou mountains) in my house.

San-sha is a negative energy that changes location every year.  Construction like digging and movements should be avoided in San-sha location or sickness or disaster will strike.  In Feng Shui, the remedy is usually putting a pair of Ki-lun facing the San San locations.  For current year of 2018, north (hai, zi and chou mountains) is the San-sha location.

Ki-lun must be applied in pairs– one male and one female with a baby Ki-lun.  Place  male Ki-lun on the left side and female on the right.

A word of caution– Ki-lun is a very righteous animal and hates “bad” people.  Do not use Ki-lun to fix San-sha if you are less than decent or Ki-lun may kick your behind.

“Ken, I cannot get Ki-lun in my part of the world.”

“Ken, I cannot afford this expensive Ki-lun.”

“Ken, I am not Chinese. Ki-lun looks like a monster and does not match my house decor.”

Today is your lucky day.  I have answers for all your concerns.  Here are all Ki-lun remedy alternatives that may cater to your economic and cultural background.

Solving affordability and availability problems

You may print out the above Ki-lun photo and put it facing the San-sha direction.

Solving the cultural background or decoration problems

San-sha is a “sha-qi” or strong vicious energy.  We may use a strong energy to balance it out.  Here are two examples of items that westerners may use to counter-act San-sha energy.

1.  Archangel St. Michael — put his statue or picture in the San-sha location.

2.  Cannon— put a model cannon or  a picture of cannon facing San-sha location.  Make sure your cannon is pointing towards outside of your house.  The cannon in the enclosed photo was used by Sir Wellington to battle Napolean.  It has tons of “sha-qi”.

Using logic and reasoning, you don’t need to have a Jurassic Park (Feng Shui monsters edition) in your house to fix your Feng Shui.  You could easily find substitutes based on balance and 5-elements theory.

The locations specified in this article are in terms of the sitting and facing direction of a house or office/ business.  These locations, in general, are good for enhancing the power or authority and career luck of a personal.  The career location is also good for enhancing wealth.

The table below shows these locations:

HOW TO USE THESE LOCATIONS?

1.  Put your desk in any of these locations.  Put your phone or frequently used books in the left side of the desk.  Ideally the back of your chair should have a wall as “supporting mountain”.

2.  Keep these locations clean and bright even if you cannot put a desk there.  Put away figurines or pictures of animals that clash your Chinese Zodiac animal sign.  For example, if ram is your birth animal sign, do not put pictures or statues of ox in these locations.

3. If you are in people-oriented business,  put up pictures or figurines of animals that combine with your birth animal sign.  For example, for a ram person, put up horse, pig, or rabbit.  One animal of each type is good enough.

4.  To enhance your authority or power, put symbols of power/ authority according to your local cultural belief.  For example, Chinese people would put seals or caldron as decorations in the power location.

5.  To enhance your career and wealth, put symbols of career and wealth according to your local cultural belief in the career location.

6.  For male, make sure NW has no toilet and SW for female.

These locations are based on Feng Shui theory.  People who have taken my “Practical Door Feng Shui for Wealth” would understand the rational behind.

meanPpl2Xiao ren” or “little people” is the Chinese term for mean people, backstabbers and gossipers — people who make your life miserable or blocking your progress in life.

Common Feng Shui features that attract mean people are:

  1. External negative energy (sha-qi) like T-junction, heaven-chopping sha, and other form sha.
  2. Missing corner in home or office, especially SE or NW side.
  3. Overhanging beam above your seat or bed
  4. Door facing door, whether with your neighbor’s door or door facing door inside your home or office
  5. Window behind sofa, bed or office chair (no support or helpful mentor)
  6. Yin” plants with thorns like roses, cactus, climbing plants/ vines
  7. Clutters and  garbage accumulation in your home or office
  8. Sleeping or sitting in the annual 3-wood star location (2018 in NE, 2019 in south, 2020 in north).  This star stands for disharmony and mean people.

Some remedies or cures for the above are from simple to difficult.  The easy ones are simply removing or relocating the offending Feng Shui items.  For the difficult ones, please consult your Feng Shui teacher or take the following course for cures or remedies:
