Chinese New Year follows the lunar calendar which starts at the first day of the lunar year. The date (in terms of western calendar) varies from year to year. For example, in 2008, CNY was on Feb.5 and 2007 was Feb. 18. Solar calendar is employed in Feng Shui and most Chinese astrological methods. The new year starts consistently on Li-chun (Spring solstice) or Feb. 4th. It is based on the relative orbit location of the earth to the sun.

The "energies" do not really suddenly switch overnight. Some people already "sense" the effect of the year of ox now.

Hello.

Why do you say that the year starts on 25th of Jan?
I always thought that the celebration of the NY on the new moon is a kind of chinese tradition. And the energies are being switched on 3rd of Februrary this year.
